Ripple XRP is a cryptocurrency payment platform focused on non-refundable currency exchange transactions. It was developed by Ripple. Its main feature is a consensus ledger. The system was launched in 2012. The protocol supports “tokens” representing fiat money, cryptocurrency, commodities, or other objects such as frequent flyer miles or mobile minutes. Ripple is essentially based on an open, shared database and uses a consensus process to allow exchanges to be made in a distributed manner. The internal cryptocurrency of the Ripple network is called XRP.
